Bill Beck, a Democrat from Nashville, has died, according to Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home.

Rep. Bill Beck’s untimely passing has left us in shock and disbelief. On June 4, House Speaker Cameron Sexton (R) tweeted, “Bill was a dedicated servant and powerful voice for the city of Nashville, a husband, father, and friend to everyone in the General Assembly.” His witty remarks and infectious chuckle were guaranteed to brighten any House committee or floor session. State Senator Jeff Yarbro (D-Nashville), a fellow Democrat in the Tennessee General Assembly, tweeted, “I’m really heartbroken to learn that my buddy Rep. Bill Beck has died. We both started in the legislature in 2014, and he was such a decent human being. Many people in this city considered him a friend, so please pray for his wife Pam, his children, and all his other relatives and friends.

A statement about the loss of Representative Bill Beck was released on the official Tennessee Secretary of State Facebook page on Sunday night. Beck, who represented Tennessee’s District 51, was 61 years old and married with one child, per his legislative profile.

According to the website, Beck also serves on the State Government Committee, Transportation Committee, Ethics Committee, Civil Justice Subcommittee, Departments and Agencies Subcommittee, and Workplace Discrimination and Harassment Subcommittee.

Beck reportedly went to University School of Nashville before completing a BA in business administration at Belmont University and a JD at the Nashville School of Law.

Regarding Beck’s passing, no new details have been shared.
